Oversaw the design direction and production of the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics for the X1 playform. Our goal was to bring the ustomer the most live, mobile and technogically advanced Olympics experience ever, combining it with NBCUniversal's incredible story.
Simple. Engaging. Dramatic.
A defining rule that we kept in mind from previous sports campaigns is that people loved seeing the athletes. People them as larger than life, the fiercest competitors within their respective sports. A concept we had been tossing around was using the mountains of the Pyeongchang area as a background, kept in smaller scale to make these athletes truly appear larger than life.
From there it was off to the races. We had an outline of the initial set of content to present, everything from the pre-games documentariees, shorts, clips from previous Olympics, to the opening ceremonies. With Pyeongchang being 13 hours ahead of us on the east coast, it meant that by the time we woke up, events had been happening throughout the night already. This meant we needed templates that could be easily updated as news rolled in.
